Shalvah P’nima Tzion was born to Sararose and Eliezer Tzion July 4 in Bat Ayion, Israel.Grandparents are Jay and Marleen Goldstein of Portland and Bernie and Caren Zinn of St. Louis. Eliezer is currently a rabbinical student in Israel.

Maia Sari Levinson was born to Noelle and Aaron Landauer at Good Samaritan July 1. Grandparents are Ann and Steve Levinson of Highland Park, Ill., Sherry Nichols of Oregon City and Donald Landauer of Eugene. Great-grandmother is Anne Hannigan of Gresham.
PERLMAN AND ISRAEL
Deborah Perlman and Ofer Israel were married June 19 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Perlman is the daughter of Mary Perlman of Portland and the granddaughter of the late Dr. Frank and Wilma Jane Perlman of Portland. Israel is the son of Yossi and Dalia Israel of Moshav Sadeh Eliezer, Israel. The couple currently resides in Guangzhou, China.
A memorial service was held for Mark L. Ail July 28 at his home in Vancouver, Wash. Mr. Ail died July 25 at the age of 60. A Portland native, Mr. Ail earned two master’s degrees in education, one from Oregon State University, one from Western Oregon State University. He also was past president of Congregation Neveh Shalom. Mr. Ail worked primarily as an advertising consultant and motor sports producer. He is survived by his wife Mona, daughter Felicia Ail, step-son Kevin Spencer, brother David Ail, sister Rande Petersen and granddaughter Olivia Spencer. Donations can be made in his honor to the Mark Ail Campership Fund at Congregation Neveh Shalom.
A public service was held for Lawrence J. Cohen, MD, at the Gevurtz Chapel. Dr. Cohen died Aug. 2 at the age of 98. Born in Baltimore, Md., Dr. Cohen was a decorated World War II veteran who served in forces commanded by George S. Patton. He studied medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and graduated from John’s Hopkins, and had been an orthopedic surgeon in Oregon since about 1949. Dr. Cohen is survived by his daughter Becky Allred, his son-in-law Lee Allred and his grandson Adrien Allred.
A memorial service was held for Herman Mills Aug. 4 at Shaarie Torah Memorial Chapel. Mr. Mills died Aug. 2 at the age of 81. A life-long Portland resident, Mr. Mills earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Oregon State University. He worked primarily as an office manager for Cold Storage Co. Mr. Mills also was a member of Congregation Shaarie Torah. He is survived by his daughters Sherry Breeze and Stephanie Wilson, sister Marian Brown and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held for Harry Eliazer Swerdlik Aug. 13 at Holman’s Funeral Service Chapel. Mr. Swerdlik died Aug. 9 at the age of 89. Born and raised in Portland, Mr. Swerdlik was a World War II veteran who served in the Army’s 41st Division. He also worked as a salesman for a freight company. Mr. Swerdlik is survived by his sons Garry Swerdlik, Larry Swerdlik and Rick Swerdlik, daughters Barbara Swerdlik and Tamra Swerdlick, former spouse Beverly Swerdlik, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or Robison Jewish Health Center.
