Portland’s Florence Melton Adult Mini-School and Machar are co-sponsoring a service picnic at Cedar Sinai Park. Participants will help pull ivy and maintain the grounds on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Portland Melton will offer a sample class about Tish B’Av so that the residents and attendees can learn about the holiday.
“At our graduation this spring, Charlie Schiffman told us that learning wasn’t enough. We had to act. We thought it would be nice to have a service picnic at Cedar Sinai so we could put our learning into action,” said Sarah Liebman, Melton class of 2008.
Liebman is excited about bringing together Melton alumni and students, Machar leaders, Urban Jews PDX participants, and anyone else who wants to have fun outside while helping Cedar Sinai.
The picnic will be Sunday, Aug. 3, from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. with the Taste of Melton sample class at 10:30. Current students or alumni who want to get to work can skip the Taste of Melton. Cedar Sinai Park is at 6125 SW Boundary St. Attendees should bring a lunch and gardening gloves.
