The 27-year tradition of “white box tzedakah” benefits the residents of RJHC. Sisterhood has raised $52,285 for 2008, said Treasurer Virginia Russell. For the first time, she said, there were two major bequests, in addition to dues, tributes, voluntary donations, and $932 in “white box tzedakah,” $437 at the White Box Tea. This enabled Sisterhood to replace the dining room chairs, contribute $10,000 to the Activities Department and donate $10,000 to fund an on-site beautician, Russell said. Jean Hasson said, “When the infirmary was being funded and built,” Sisterhood decided to augment the budget by contributing money in small white boxes. Hasson has chaired the White Box Fund for 26 years.
