Pulitzer Prize winning author Geraldine Brooks will read from her most recent novel, “People of the Book,” Jan. 19 at Powell’s Books on West Burnside.
“People of the Book,” just released in paperback by Penguin, is historical fiction that follows the treasured illuminated manuscript known as “The Sarajevo Haggadah” through centuries of exile and war.
While Brooks’ novel is, indeed, a work of fiction, “The Sarajevo Haggadah” is quite real. Brooks’ research of the haggadah’s history is meticulous and her story is compelling and entirely captivating.
The Boston Globe said in response to the initial appearance of this book in 2008, “There’s a romance between Brooks and the world, and her writing is as full of heart and curiosity as it is intelligence and judgment.”
Brooks’ appearance at Powell’s is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Earlier in the day she will meet with local media, including the Jewish Review.
One may pre-order a signed edition of “People of the Book” by visiting Powells.com.
