Temple Beth Israel in Eugene will present Israeli-born jazz saxophonist Idit Shner and her quartet in concert at the temple on Nov. 22.
Hailed as “the embodiment of a modern Jazz musician,” Shner’s compositions derive from ancient, modern, sacred and secular music she heard growing up in Israel.
Shner has played in various distinguished venues in the United States and abroad such as The Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center.
Her latest project involves nursery rhymes and ancient melodies from the Jewish liturgy performed in a jazz setting.
In September 2008, her first jazz CD, entitled “Tuesday’s Blues” was released on OA2 Records. The Washington Post called it “an impressive showing.”
Shner, who holds a doctor of musical arts degree from University of North Texas, is a member of the music faculty at the University of Oregon.
Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information call 541-485-7218 or visit www.tibeugene.org on the Web. Learn more about Shner at www.iditshner.com.
