The Northwest Film Center will present three Jewish-related films as part of its 33rd Portland International Film Festival this month.
In addition to “Ajami,” Israel’s submission for the Academy Awards, the NWFC will screen “The Wedding Song,” a Tunisian film exploring the intersection of Jewish and Arab cultures during the 1940s.
The Mexican film “Nora’s Will” examines the close-knit Jewish community in Mexico City when a Jewish man discovers his wife of 30 years, who he recently divorced, has committed suicide. While preparing for the funeral, he discovers she has planned a final Passover seder and that a mysterious photograph may unlock the secrets of her life and death.
“Room and a Half” is a Russian mixed animation film that portrays the life of Jewish-Soviet-American poet and Nobel Laureate in literature Joseph Brodsky.
The film festival runs Feb. 11-28.
