Portland Jewish musician Michael Allen Harrison will perform a holiday concert to benefit DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at The Old Church.
Harrison's music has been described as cutting edge, classical contemporary style with a distinct niche of timeless music that far exceeds the scales of his Steinway keyboard. As a sought after producer, composer and arranger, this well-known concert pianist has been in the music scene for more than two decades.
Join DoveLewis and Michael Allen Harrison for a memorable evening of beautiful holiday music to celebrate the conclusion of DoveLewis’ 35th anniversary year.
Founded in 1973, Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital is the only 24-hour, non-profit medical service organization in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to supporting and enhancing the role animals play in people’s lives. DoveLewis provides state-of-the-art emergency and ICU services, care for lost and stray animals and wildlife, and life giving transfusions from volunteer canine and feline blood banks. It offers financial assistance for medical expenses for low-income clients.
On average, DoveLewis provides services to 16,000 patients per year. The hospital maintains one of the largest community-based animal blood banks in the United States. It’s Animal Assisted Therapy and Education program puts 200 human-animal teams into local hospitals, assisted living centers, residential treatment centers, schools, libraries, group homes, juvenile detention centers and doctors’ offices to provide the loving touch and companionship of the human-animal bond.
The emergency hospital offers Pet Loss Support services free to help grieving people navigate the loss of a beloved pet.
DoveLewis provides in-house continuing education for veterinary professionals in Oregon and the greater Northwest. Annually, five veterinary interns, more than 30 veterinary students, and numerous veterinary technicians come to DoveLewis for training in emergency and critical care. In 2006, DoveLewis began its 3-year veterinary residency program, accepting applications from doctors around the world. DoveLewis has collaborations with Portland Community College’s veterinary technician program and the veterinary colleges at Oregon State University and Washington State University.
DoveLewis is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, in Northwest Portland and evenings and weekends at its Eastside hospital in Plaza 205.
Tickets for the Dec. 13 concert at The Old Church, 1422 SW 11th Ave., are $30. For tickets, go online to dovelewis.org/giftshop.
