Jewish Book Award candidate to speak at Neveh Shalom

After being canceled due to heavy snow, the December lecture by author Ellen Eisenberg entitled “From Protest to Collaboration: Western Jews and the Plight of Japanese Americans during World War II” has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 23.
Last month Eisenberg’s book “The First to Cry Down Injustice?: Western Jews and Japanese Removal During WWII” was named a finalist for a National Jewish Book Award.
The 58th Annual National Jewish Book Awards will honor winners in 16 categories March 5 at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. The American Jewish Studies Celebrate 350 Award, for which Eisenberg is a finalist, will be presented to Julian Levinson for “Exiles on Main Street: Jewish American Writers and American Literary Culture.”
Eisenberg’s Portland lecture is jointly sponsored by Pacific NW Writers and Scholars and the Oregon Jewish Museum.
The lecture by Willamette University Professor Eisenberg, will begin at 7 p.m., Feb. 23 in the Stampfer Chapel at Congregation Neveh Shalom, 2900 SW Peaceful Lane, Portland.
Admission is $5; students are free.
