Dec. 25, 1944, Berlin lies in ruins. Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels knows the country needs inspiration and convinces the Führer to hold an aggressive New Year’s speech standing in front of a cardboard background scene depicting an undamaged Berlin, but Hitler is an emotional mess. The only man who can help is the Jewish actor Adolf Grünbaum, who had given Hitler acting lessons at the beginning of his political career. Grünbaum and his family are pulled out of their concentration camp and brought to get Hitler back into top fighting form. My Führer is a daring and controversial revisionist comedy about one of histories darkest times. From putting Hitler in a jogging suit to making him role-play as one of his dogs, our hero soon learns that, for a short time, he is the puppet-master of one of the world’s most evil and powerful men. At the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. Tickets are $6.50, $4.50 for seniors 65+ and children 4-12. Monday all shows $4. In the early 1900’s, Eastern European and Sephardic Jews settled in South Portland. There were kosher butcher shops and bakeries, a Jewish orphanage and an old age home. There were schools, a library with Yiddish books, the Neighborhood House, Hebrew school and citizenship classes. Jewish Genealogical Society of Oregon New Year, New Ideas, New Info on your Family Tree Program: JGSO's meeting is designed to get us all off to a good research start in 5770. We encourage you all to submit your research problems/dilemmas/questions to: Barbara.hershey@comcast.net, in advance. Copenhagen 1944. Denmark is occupied by Nazi Germany. While the Danish population hopes for a swift end to the war, freedom fighters Bent Faurschou-Hviid (23), alias Flame , and Jørgen Haagen Schmith (33), alias Citron, secretly put their lives at stake fighting for the Resistance. There are approximately 2 million undocumented children who were born outside the U.S. and raised in this country. These young people are educated in American schools, hold American values, know only the U.S. as home and, upon high school graduation, find the door to their future slammed shut. Sixty-five thousand undocumented students graduate every year from high school without “papers.” It is against the law to work or drive. It is difficult, if not impossible in some states, to attend college. Currently, there is no path to citizenship for these young people. That is part of the reason Rebecca Shine, a Portland-based filmmaker and her partner Anne Galisky, both members of Congregation Neveh Shalom, decided to produce the film. 7 p.m. at the Hollywood Theater, NE Sandy and 41st Avenue. $10 per person, $50 for after-party. Buy tickets online at www.papersthemovie.com or at Film Action Oregon at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. For more information, go to www.papersthemovie.com, call 503-282-8683 or email rebecca@grahamstreetproductions.com. | ||
