SALEM: Immigration, then and now. During Kabbalat Shabbat services Francisco López, executive director of CAUSA—the Oregon Immigrant Rights Coalition, will speak about his experience as an El Salvadorian immigrant. His story is the story of many and is closely tied to the Jewish experience of immigration to the U.S. in the 19th and 20th centuries. Hear as he connects his story to the Exodus from Egypt. López has 25 years of experience in community organizing, leadership development, social service program design and affordable housing advocacy in the U.S. and Latin America. He is also a field director with Voz Hispana Vote Project, an organization seeking to increase Latino participation in the democratic process and serves on the board of the SHARE Foundation, an international organization that promotes social and economic development programs in Latin America.
