Movie Night at Oregon Jewish Museum Featuring: Strange Fruit. Strange Fruit is a documentary exploring the history of the Billie Holiday classic. The film examines the interplay of race, labor, the left and popular culture as forces that would give rise to the Civil Rights Movement. While many assume Strange Fruit was written by Holiday, it actually began as a poem by a Jewish schoolteacher and union activist from the Bronx who later set it to music. $10 or $8 for museum members. RSVP to 503-226-3600 or friderike@ojm.org. 7 p.m. at the Oregon Jewish Museum, 1953 NW Kearney St.
