Join visiting scholar Meesh Hammer-Kossoy from Jerusalem’s Pardes Institute for a lively discussion about how the debate over negotiating with terrorists to redeem hostage soldiers illuminates the Talmud’s debate on our everyday struggles to balance pressing individual needs with the long term needs of the community. Dr. Hammer-Kossoy, whose doctoral dissertation explored the courageous manner in which the rabbis of the Talmud created a new criminal justice system, is a member of the Talmud faculty and director of the Social Justice Track at Pardes. At Congregation Kesser Israel, 6698 SW Capitol Hwy., following mincha at 7 p.m. A light meal will be served. Free, all welcome. For more information, call 503-222-1239.
