Health care professionals will hear about “Fighting for Justice in the War on Terror from Portland to Peshawar” at the next gathering of The Maimonides Society of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland.
Steven T. Wax, federal public defender district of Oregon since 1983, will address the 7 p.m. Jan. 20 event at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. The event includes dinner.
For his work on the Brandon Mayfield case, he won the 2004 NACDL President’s Commendation and the 2007 Judge Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee. Mayfield, a Portland attorney, was erroneously linked to the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
Wax is a frequent writer and speaker on federal criminal and constitutional issues and the author of “Kafka Comes to America.”
