More kids than ever are heading to B’nai B’rith Camp, which means more Camp alums too.

And just as BB Camp creates social events and regular newsletters for kids during non-camp seasons, BB Camp recently created an Alumni Committee, with members up and down the West Coast, from L.A. to Seattle.

Michelle Caplan, development and marketing director, is guiding the committee of 20 alumnus toward its overall goal of working for BB Camp’s current and future strength, with this generation of camp graduates and those to come.

“This is a very dedicated group of people, representing different demographics, all of which are important to BB Camp’s ongoing sustainability,” Caplan said.

During the Alumni Committee’s July kick-off with chair Doug Blauer, members hit on a number of key committee responsibilities, including attracting more members; expanding the database and keeping each individual in better touch via social media and other means; fund-raising; camp beautification and green ideas; andplanning camp’s 90th birthday celebration in 2011.

“We had a robust and productive meeting covering multiple topics that are key to building an Association that will be self-perpetuating and highly successful,” said Blauer. “This committee is quite aware of the unique opportunity we have to support and enhance BB Camp for generations to come.”

The BB Camp Alumni Committee’s Portland contingent includes Rick Barde, Doug Blauer, Judy Blauer, Kim Fuson, Michael Allen Harrison, Loren Koplan, Michael Laschiver, Adam Nemer, Aaron Pearlman, Jen Singer, Linda Singer, Robyn Spring and Scott Zacks. From Eugene is Johns Aarons; from Medford is Robert Sacks; from L.A. is Mark Sacks; and from Seattle are Tammy Federman, Jeff Ginsberg, Erik Lawson and Sarina Natkin.

Also new for BB Camp is its digs: Camp’s growing staff has moved out of the portable that’s housed it for five years and now is in an appropriately spacious office at 9400 S.W. Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy., No. 147, in Beaverton.

“We’re sad to leave the hub of the community on the MJCC campus, but delighted for BB Camp’s opportunity to grow,” said BB Camp Executive Director Michelle Koplan.
