The Maimonides Society kicks off its seventh year of programming for health care professionals with a Sept. 1 barbecue at the home of Dr. Derek and Lydia Lipman.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland’s affinity group for health care professionals has grown steadily since the first gathering at the Lipman’s home six years ago. Designed to offer social, networking and educational opportunities for health care professionals while raising funds for and awareness of federation, the group now has nearly 750 health care professionals on its list.
New JFGP President and Chief Executive Officer Marc Blattner starts his new job Sept. 1 and will attend the Maimonides barbecue as his first public appearance. Blattner brings to his new post 16 years of leadership experience within the federation system, most recently as executive vice president for development and community affairs the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
The 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1 event again will be at the Lipman’s home in Lake Oswego. Kosher catering will be by Century Catering.
Maimonides Society Chair Rodger Sleven praised the Lipmans for launching the Maimonides Society with the initial gathering at their home seven years ago and for continuing to be such gracious hosts for each year’s kick-off event. He said the gathering is always one of the most successful Maimonides events spawning friendship, fellowship and conviviality.
This seventh annual get-together will again serve as the kick-off for the 2011 campaign. The Maimonides Society is committed to offering a balance of topics each year that “feed our minds, our souls, and our need for socializing and sheer entertainment.”
