Portland honors PJA grad Wolff for hospice service

Portland Mayor-elect Sam Adams presented the Youth Spirit of Portland Award to George Wolff, 17, a senior at Wilson High School and graduate of Portland Jewish Academy.

“He is a shining star at Hospice Care of the Northwest where he provides the comfort and beauty of music to those in their final journey,” read Adams from the award nomination Dec. 11.

“He has been a tremendous asset with the launch of the Hospice Music Program, always willing and able to visit patients despite his busy school schedule.

“George provides a caring, compassionate presence as well as musical enjoyment for the dying in our
community.”

“A classical guitarist, Wolff has won numerous music awards including first place in the 2007 OSSA State Music Championships and the 89.9 All Classical Radio Young Talent Search in 2005 at the age of 13.

“Wolff plans to study astrophysics in college.

“The Spirit of Portland Awards have been presented each year since 1985 to those “who have made positive contributions to our city and neighborhoods above and beyond the average volunteer or staff commitment.”
