Teens to spend MLK weekend helping New Orleans recover

PORTLAND TEENAGERS from the Jewish and African-American communities will spend Jan. 18-21 in New Orleans for a community service/educational program sponsored by the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland with support from St. Philip Episcopal Church. Teen participants are (from left, front) Joseph Young, Shawn Rosenthal, Sheterika Williams, Gina Deitz, (middle row) Skyler Mitchell, Violet Trachtenberg, Daniel Barnett, Mariah Morton, and (not pictured) Riley Gold. The trip was planned after last summer’s CRC mission to New Orleans by (back row from left): Ben Sandler, the Rev. Alcena Boozer and Celeste Carey (who will return to lead the teens), joined by Jonathan Emanuel, team leader for the teen trip, and JFGP Community Relations Director Bob Horenstein.
