Congregation Neveh Shalom, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary and its recently remodeled and expanded building, invites anyone considering joining a congregation this year to enjoy a complimentary membership through June 30.
The synagogue will waive dues through June 30, 2009, for all new members (who have not been members in the past 18 months) who join during the month of March. They will also receive free admission to two events.
According to Fred Rothstein, CNS executive director, “We are offering this new, limited-time opportunity to our friends in the Greater Portland Metro area during March so that they can experience what it means to become a part of our Conservative yet egalitarian congregation of almost 1,000 families.”
President Doug Lenhoff adds, “New members are being offered this unique opportunity to participate in and observe the many daily, weekly and special holiday services, along with the wide variety of programs and benefits that are available to members of CNS, without making a substantial financial commitment at this time.
“Our goal, of course,” says Debbie Zwetchkenbaum, chair of the CNS Membership Committee, “is to provide such a welcoming and warm experience, and meet people’s spiritual needs in such a way, that they naturally will want to extend their membership in the years to come.”
Rabbi Daniel Isaak notes that, “CNS offers a comfortable religious and social community for its members, yet is large enough to be socially conscious and actively engaged in helping our region, our people and the world, including our brothers and sisters in Israel. CNS works to make a positive difference in the lives of our members and the community at large.”
CNS is centrally located in Southwest Portland, with close access to I-5. For more information, contact Fred Rothstein at 503-246-8831 or frothstein@nevehshalom.org, or visit the congregation’s Web site at www.nevehshalom.org.
