More than 220 people turned out for Heebonism Dec. 24 at the Ace Hotel—a Chinese dinner and party for young Jewish adults.

The party was organized by Young Jews on the Come Up, with financial support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland and Ace Hotel.

“We had 60 people for the Chinese dinner including many of the movers and shakers in the Jewish community and Portland music biz,” said organizer Ryan Bukstein.  “The party was crazy with over 220 people there.”

The party portion of the evening included a cash bar, ping pong, Twister, board games, vintage video games and dancing music provided by a rotating cast of DJs.

Bukstein provided a description of the production crew who created this party and plan to organize more: “Young Jews on the Come Up:  They are a band of artists, musicians, worker bees, smarty pants, photographers, designers, creative types, misanthropes, event planners, scholars, historians, jokers and lovers. They are the young Jews on the come up and if you give them five years, they will be running Portland.”

The group is planning a Purim party on March 21.  “Purim Some Sugar on Me,” will be at the Someday Lounge. The party will include masquerade, noisemakers, the Purim story with live music, DJs and Hamantashen.
