Leah Hochman, a candidate for the Lorry I. Lokey Chair in Judaic Studies at Portland State University, will give a research talk that is free to attend. Hochman is assistant professor of religion and Jewish studies at the University of Florida. She received her PhD from Boston University in 2000 and is a specialist in modern Jewish thought and culture, as well as German-Jewish studies. In addition, Hochman is currently revising a book called "Mendelssohn’s Ugly" for publication; it examines the theological and philosophical conceptions of ugliness in European thought.
