Julie Lieber, a candidate for the Lorry I. Lokey Chair in Judaic Studies at Portland State University, will give a free research talk. Lieber's dissertation, “Imagining and Living Gender: Rabbis and Jewish Women in fin de siècle Vienna, 1867-1914,” examines the lives of traditional Jewish women living within a culture exploring non-traditional ideas about gender and sexuality. She is the recipient of a Brenner Award for archival research in Jerusalem, as well as dissertation fellowships from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture. At present, Lieber is an adjunct instructor at the University of Denver. If you plan to attend, email Linda Maizels at lmaizels@pdx.edu for specific location.
