Natan Meir, a candidate for the Lorry I. Lokey Chair in Judaic Studies at Portland State University, will give a research talk. Meir received his PhD from Columbia in 2004 and is a specialist in the social and cultural history of Jews in Eastern Europe. Meir has been awarded the Fulbright-Hays and National Foundation for Jewish Culture dissertation fellowships, as well as a Lady Davis Postdoctoral Fellowship. He is currently the recipient of a Yad Hanadiv/Beracha Foundation Fellowship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem doing research on a new project entitled “Marginal Jews,” an investigation of patterns of social exclusion and marginal groups in East European Jewry.
