About 120 teenagers, more than a dozen educators and four rabbis turned out for the second community-wide Wednesday Night School program designed to form bonds between Portland-area Jewish teenagers.
Jonathan Emanuel, a teacher at Congregation Neveh Shalom who has been working with Portland Area Jewish Educators to expand community-wide programming, led the TuB’Shvat seder that followed classes about the holiday led by Rabbis Michael Cahana, Arthur Zuckerman, Bradley Greenstein and Moshe Wilhelm. Sylvia Frankel led a separate program for educators.
The Jan. 23 program at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center drew teens from Shaarie Torah, Neveh Shalom, Beth Israel, Shir Tikvah, Kesser Israel and P’nai Or. The evening also included dinner catered by Café at the J and Conservative services led by Neveh Shalom Education Director Susan Bernstein.
The next community-wide program will be March 12 at Congregation Shaarie Torah featuring a program about the people of Sederot and the challenges that Israeli community faces being under continuous rocket fire from Gaza. For details on that program, call Shaarie Torah Education Director Dorice Horenstein at 503-226-6131.
