Rabbi Richard Address, who heads the Department of Jewish Family Concerns of the Union for Reform Judaism, will be scholar-in-residence for Congregation Beth Israel Feb. 15-16. During Shabbat evening services at 6 pm, Feb. 15, Addresss will speak on “The Long and Winding Road: Implications for the Synagogue of the Revolution in Longevity.” The talk will examine results of the Sacred Aging Project, touching on the new demographics within the Jewish community and how to make sacred decisions while exploring longevity revolution. During Torah study at 9 am, Feb. 16, Address will explore the realities of modern socio-dynamics as encountered in ancient texts. At Shabbat morning services, which begin at 10:30 am, Address will explore key texts from Jewish tradition that serve as the foundation for personal creativity and spiritual growth while aging. He will also discuss creating new rituals for new life experiences, which speak to issues such as loss and transition and the acceptance and celebration of new roles in life. Address will conclude his visit at the Seuda Shelisheet, “The Third Meal,” at 4 pm, with a discussion of how to address the demographic changes in modern society.
