Bradbury to speak on warming

By Jewish Review

Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will lead a presentation on global warming on March 9 in Salem sponsored by Temple Beth Sholom, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. The event will be held at Temple Beth Sholom beginning at 2 p.m.

Bradbury, former president of the Oregon Senate, will lead a presentation based on former Vice President Al Gore’s documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Bradbury worked with Gore, completing a training program about issues and solutions surrounding global warming.

Bradbury was part of a select group of 50 individuals chosen to receive intensive training by Gore and a team of renowned scientists about issues surrounding global warming. Each received technical training to become experienced presenters of a version of Gore’s computer-based slide show, which became the basis of his best-selling book and documentary film, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

“Bill Bradbury is an outstanding example of the millions of Americans who have been energized by the call to action on the climate crisis,” said Gore. “Bill will be spending the next year making presentations in and around Oregon discussing how individuals and businesses, schools and other organizations can be a major part of the solution to the growing crisis of global warming.”

Bradbury’s presentation sponsored by the three faith groups is the first of a new collaboration. Temple Beth Sholom Administrator Judith Havas said the presentation was sparked by a mutual concern about environmental issues.

“As part of all of our different faiths, we care very much about being good stewards of the land. And the threats posed to us by global warming may very well be the environmental movement that defines our generation. We all must join together to repair our world and leave this a better place for our children,” said Havas.
