In this multi-generational beginning djembe class, students will learn polyrhythmic African beats and djembe technique. Students will also practice creating their own rhythms, adding to a drum circle and beginning solo methods. The class will create a women-only space and there will be a focus on some of the ways rhythm can be used in Jewish spirituality, tradition and meditation. Drums may be available for rental upon request. Taught by Julie Lipson, who graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in women's studies and ethnomusicology. Thursdays, March 6-April 10.
