Members of the Oregon Jewish Community Youth Foundation expected about 225 teens to show up for their fund-raisining dance Feb. 23 at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center.
But John Moss of the parent Oregon Jewish Community Foundation said 625 young people attended.
The event grossed more than $6,050, three times what planners anticipated. Admission was $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
The funds will be added to revenue from other youth foundation fund-raising events to be allocated by the youths later this year to organizations and causes they will select.
Moss said the OJCYF allocated $47,500 last year and that they hope to exceed that amount this year.
He attributed the huge turnout for the dance to the event having been posted on the Facebook Web site, which he said has become a hugely effective medium.
The youth foundation operates much the same as its parent organization. Its purpose is to instill in young people an understanding of the values and the techniques of philanthropy.
The next OJCYF event is a benefit dinner for adults and youths April 17. Pianist Michael Allen Harrison will perform.
Invitations will be sent out soon. Persons wanting to learn more about the dinner or make reservations can visit of the OJCF Web site at ojcf.org.
