A combination of drama, puppetry, verse and eurythmy, this production is based on the work of French hero Jacques Lusseyran and recounts the influence poetry had on the prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Lusseyran, who was blinded at age eight, ran one of the largest resistance cells in France until he was betrayed. After surviving Buchenwald, he became a teacher, philosopher and writer. In his essay “Poetry in Buchenwald” Lusseyran focuses on how the recitation of poetry changed the lives of inmates and helped give some small respite from the unbearable conditions in the camp. $10 advance, $15 at the door. Call the Tears of Joy Box Office at 503-248-0557 or 360-695-3050. 8 p.m. Winningstad Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway.
