The Jewish Business Network’s second annual fundraising event, “A Day of Hope,” drew a record crowd to the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver on Feb. 9 and raised $25,000.
The proceeds exceeded expectations thanks to sponsorships and many gifts received that evening. Because of this success, the JBN will offer even greater support to their three charities: “The Good Family” Orphanage in Odessa, Ukraine, the Family Fund, as well the Camp Scholarship Fund.
Kate Jones of Nutrition Now, who serves as the JBN’s director of events, oversaw the committee led by co-chairs Lynn Miller of the Vancouver Sign Company and Carrie Schnell, marketing manager at Hewlett Packard.
Their concept of the Monte Carlo Night theme was a hit with partygoers. Participants enjoyed the Chance Auction which featured donated prizes including a Nautilus elliptical machine, a 42-inch TV, a diamond tennis bracelet and a $1,000 shopping spree. Casino enthusiasts gathered around Black Jack, Craps and Roulette tables to brush up on their gaming skills and increase the stakes on the evening’s outcome.
One highlight of the evening included a presentation depicting life as a Ukraine orphan. A video produced by Gray Hughes of Digital Rain Films of Portland left very few dry eyes in the house. This presentation, as well as spectacular kosher food, fun and games, left many guests commenting on how much they look forward to next year’s event.
The JBN helps meet the educational and societal demands of a growing Jewish population and initiates programs that will shape a vibrant and united Jewish community. Monthly meetings with business leaders and professionals serve as a great opportunity to network with others in the business community.
