On April 6, six Portland area choirs will perform in the fourth annual Portland Jewish Choral Festival.

In celebration of Israel’s 60th anniversary, 140 choral singers of all ages will join in presenting songs old and new, expressing memory, longing and hope for Israel. “Israel in Spirit and Song” will begin at 3 p.m., April 6, in the Neveh Shalom Sanctuary.

Choirs performing in this year’s festival are Portland Jewish Academy Makhela and Middle School Choirs, the HaZamir High School Choir, Neveh Shalom Adult Choir, Shaarie Torah Community Chorus and the Rose Schnitzer Manor Chorus.

Cantor Barbara Slader, director of the RSM Chorus and the Shaarie Torah Community Chorus, said “It’s a great community event. People love to hear the kids sing and last year the senior chorus was a real hit.”

Tickets at the door and through the PJA office are $8 adult,  $5 student /senior or $36 for patrons. All proceeds go to support Jewish choral programs in Portland.
