About 350 people turned out to watch some 160 singers, including the Neveh Shalom Adult Choir above, sing songs of Israel at the fourth annual Portland Jewish Choral Festival April 6 at Congregation Neveh Shalom.
Coordinated by Cantor Barbara Slader, “Israel In Spirit And Song” also featured the Portland Jewish Academy Makhela and Middle School Choirs, the Shaarie Torah Community Chorus and the Rose Schnitzer Manor Chorus. Three members of the HaZamir High School Choir joined the Neveh Shalom Choir for the performance.
In celebration of Israel’s 60th Anniversary, the choirs presented songs old and new, expressing memory, longing and hope for Israel. The concert raised $1,400 to help support the choirs involved in the concert.
