148 women prepare to drink the first of four glasses of wine at the Passages to Freedom '08 seder for women held at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center April 8. The event was co-sponsored by the MJCC and the Women’s Philanthropy Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland.

WPC chair Barbara Cohen (at far right above) got the idea to reinstitute a women’s seder in Portland during a trip to Israel over a year ago when other mission participants told her how meaningful it was in their communities. “It is nice for women to come together and enjoy the holidays and celebrate their religion and who they are,” said Cohen. She said the seder committee did an incredible job bringing the idea to fruition.
