KAREN FINK
Mayor Tom Potter presented Oregon State Bar member Karen L. Fink with the World Arts Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award on Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The award recognizes Fink’s five decades as a social justice advocate. Fink was a fund-raiser for OLIO, the Bar’s ethnic minority law student recruitment and retention program, and continues to raise funds for KLF Explorations LLC. She also serves as a board member of Uniting to Understand Racism, and has been a co-facilitator for the UUR’s six-week anti-racism dialogue series for the City of Portland and the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, among others.
OBITUARIES
BLANCHE BELINOFF
A graveside service for Blanche Belinoff was held April 2 at the Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Belinoff died March 29 at the age of 92. A Chicago native, Mrs. Belinoff had lived in Portland for the past eight years. In 1934 she married David Belinoff and worked primarily as a homemaker; Mr. Belinoff died in 1994. Mrs. Belinoff is survived by daughter Deanne Belinoff; son Robert Belinoff; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Rose Schnitzer Manor.
CELIA HEIMS
A memorial service was held for Celia Heims at Neveh Zedek April 4. Mrs. Heims died April 1 at the age of 93. Mrs. Heims was originally from Winnipeg, Canada. In 1939 she married Earl Heims, who died in 1970. Mrs. Heims also had been president of the National Council of Jewish Women and was a member of Congregation Beth Israel. She is survived by her daughter Joan Whitcher; son Dan Heims; son Bob Heims; son Jack Heims; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
