Speaker Steve Boyer, a local ER physician and climber, was a member of an American Karakoram expedition attempting a new route on K2 in 1986. He will show slides of Baltistan from that era, comment on the geology and glaciers of the region and discuss the summer on K2—the second highest mountain on earth—where 13 climbers lost their lives. Best-seller "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Relin can provide useful background information.
