Lag B’Omer returns to Alpenrose May 22

By Jewish Review

The 10th annual community-wide celebration of Lag B’Omer at Alpenrose Dairyville will be 5-8 p.m., May 22.

Featuring carnival games, entertainment and activities for all ages, the event traditionally draws hundreds to the free celebration of Jewish unity. Kosher food is always for sale during the event.

Though this is the 10th event at Alpenrose, Chabad of Oregon—the lead sponsor of the event—has been hosting Lag B’ Omer celebrations in Portland for 25 years.

“This is a fun event for the whole community,” said Chabad of Oregon Director Rabbi Moshe Wilhelm. “For people who belong to synagogues and those who don’t, this is an attractive, relaxed place to meet friends. It’s great for all ages. And Alpenrose is an all-weather setting with plenty of indoor space available in case of rain.”

Since this year’s celebration falls on Thursday evening, numerous activities related to Shabbat are in store for attendees.

“Shabbes in the Shtetl” is the theme of this year’s celebration, according to Chaim Wilhelm, who is coordinating the event. Candle-making and challah-making booths will give families something to take home to enhance their Shabbat celebrations.
