By Jewish Review
Debbie Friedman will perform and lecture in Portland May 18 and 19. A legendary Jewish composer, singer and recording artist, Friedman has recorded more than 20 albums and performed in sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall and in cities across the nation.
In Portland, she will perform at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center at 3 p.m. on May 18. Tickets purchased by May 9 are $25 for adults and $10 for children and students. After May 9, tickets are $30 and $15, respectively. Patron tickets are $100, which includes tickets to both the concert (with special seating) and the conversation the next evening.
On May 19, Friedman will appear in conversation with her long-time friend Rabbi Alan Berg discussing “Inside and Outside: the Challenge of Jewish Prayer.” The two also will perform some of Friedman’s songs. The May 19 conversation is this year’s Sara Glasgow Cogan Scholarship Event at Portland State. The evening also will highlight the achievements of Andrew Geist and Sarah Wheeler, the first Cogan Scholars, from this past year. Cogan event tickets are $10 or free for students. For concert tickets, call 503-244-0111. To RSVP for the conversation, email lmaizels@pdx.edu or call 503-725-4023.
