Ice cream, music and friends—is there a better way to kick off summer?
On Sunday, June 1, the three Schneiderman sisters accompanied by Tom Grant on piano will kick off summer at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center with a Sundae Sing-Along at 4 p.m.
Sponsored by the MJCC and the Women’s Philanthropy Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, the family concert will conclude with ice cream donated by Ben & Jerry’s.
“The Sundae Sing-Along is a wonderful way to welcome the beginning of summer with the whole family,” said co-chair Amy Blauer. “This concert is also an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and families, and meet some new ones—while enjoying festive music and a little ice cream. The Women’s Philanthropy committee is pleased to help sponsor this event welcoming all generations.”
“We’re hoping parents will bring children of all ages, and aunts, uncles and grandparents” said co-chair Ronnie Malka. “The three sisters are amazing together. Hopefully this will be a concert where the whole family will get up on their feet and dance.”
The Schneiderman sisters have performed in Portland since they were children and in recent years collaborated on the “Oy Baby!” DVD and CD series. They still perform together occasionally at Rose Schnitzer Manor and Robison Jewish Health Center, where their grandfather resides.
Stephanie Schneiderman is a seasoned singer/songwriter who tours with her own band as well as with the band “Dirty Martini.” In her most recent project, Voices for Silent Disasters, she created a series of concerts with local performers who helped raise money and awareness for people in Northern Uganda. She partnered with Mercy Corps and she is now planning a second year of concerts. For more information on Stephanie’s music or concert series, visit her Web site at www.stephanieschneiderman.com.
Lisa Schneiderman is an entertainment publicist who divides her time between Portland and Los Angeles. She is producing a documentary about kids and celebrities who are making a difference in the world.
Along with being a full-time mom to her two daughters, Kim Palumbis is involved in the local Jewish community as a music specialist for preschools, religious school programs and camps. She also teaches a family music class called, “Oy Baby,” at the MJCC.
Tickets for the concert are $5 per person (children under 1 year old are free) by May 19; thereafter, tickets are $7 per person. Register online at www.jewishportland.org or call Rachel at 503-892-7413.
