Volunteer recognition brunch June 1

The Jewish Women’s Round Table announces its 16th Annual Song of Miriam honorees. The Song of Miriam Awards honor women who volunteer their time and energy to ensure the continuity and vibrancy of the Jewish community of Oregon and Southwest Washington.
This annual event is sponsored by the JWRT, which represents Jewish women in Oregon and SW Washington through their organizations and congregations.
The awards brunch will be 10 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Sunday, June 1, at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, 6651 SW Capitol Highway. This year, 20 organizations have chosen outstanding women to be honored for their volunteer activities and dedication to promotion of Jewish life and values.
The honorees are: Oshra Rappaport of Congregation Ahavath Achim, Constance Dorreman of Congregation Beit Haverim/SMJC, Kate Royston of Beth Israel Sisterhood, Heidi Holmes of Chabad, Roz Roseman of the Eastside Jewish Community of Portland, Deborah Popper of the Portland Chapter of Hadassah, Greta Ballard of Havurah Shalom, Julia Biglajzer of Jewish Family and Child Service, Marisa Brown of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, Aviel Brodkin of Congregation Kesser Israel, Lorna Levi of Congregation Kol Ami, Sharon Buckmaster of Congregation Kol Shalom, Edith Dorsen of Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Leslye Epstein of the National Council of Jewish Women, Wendy Hetzler of Congregation Neveh Shalom, Shirley Rackner of the Oregon Jewish Museum, Batya Podos of Congregation P’nai Or, Ruth Steckel of the Portland Jewish Academy, Bernice Gevurtz of the Robison Jewish Health Center Sisterhood, Sylvia Perkel of Shaarie Torah Sisterhood and Anne Whitaker of Congregation Shir Tikvah.
The featured entertainer will be Bel-Ami Margoles. She has been singing professionally since she was 13. She has been the liturgical soloist for Temple Beth El in Eureka, Calif., for 16 years.
Kim Rosenberg and Barbara Barde, both past honorees, will be the emcees.
The cost of the brunch is $20 when paid by May 23, $28 at the door, $10 for children 12 and under, and $36 for patrons. All include a 3 percent for Mazon.
