OLLER-SCOTT

Sarah Oller and Ryan Scott of Portland announced their engagement Aug. 31. Ms. Oller is the daughter of Dale and Earl Oller of Portland; Mr. Scott is the son of Gale and Art Scott and Leila and Rick Arnopolin of Chicago.

David Evan Oller was born March 28 to Heather and Josh Oller. Grandparents are Dale and Earl Oller; Ann and Pat Adair; and Karen Crusich.

HEIDI HOLMES

Heidi Holmes, three-time Maimonides Day School auction organizer, has resigned her position with the Lake Oswego Design Center. Holmes opened Stems Uptown April 28 with business partner Shelly Sullivan, who has more than 35 years of experience in the floral business.

Stems Uptown is an indoor, European-style market offering fresh and unique floral arrangements. The store also plans to offer community classes, a children’s design center and offsite children’s birthday parties with hands-on activities. For information, call 503-517-8770. HONORS

JANE GOLDHAMER

Jane Goldhamer, co-founder of Kol Shalom, Portland’s Humanistic Judaism affiliate, is the 2008 recipient of the Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine Lifetime Achievement Award. Goldhamer received her award at the Society’s 2008 conference in April in Woodland Hills, Calif.

The award was presented by Rabbi Miriam Jerris, community development director of the Society for Humanistic Judaism and current president of the Association of Humanistic Rabbis, and by Bonnie Cousens, executive director of the Society of Humanistic Judaism.

OBITUARIES

ARLENE SIMS

A funeral service was held for Arlene Sims April 16 at Gevurtz Chapel. Mrs. Sims died April 13 at the age of 73.

A lifelong Portland resident, Mrs. Sims primarily worked as an executive assistant in the market research field. She also was a member of Soroptimist East and Neveh Shalom Robison Jewish Home, and volunteered at Providence Milwaukie Medical Center.

Mrs. Sims is survived by husband David Sims; daughters Linda Sims Miller and Denise Sims Breitenbucher; son Michael Sims; brothers Stanley Perkel and Robert Perkel; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Providence Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
