Young Jews create Seinfeld inspired party

Young Jews on the Come Up present a comedy show and dance July 2 at Someday Lounge.

Called “Curb Your En-Jew-Siasm,” the event will feature Los Angeles comedian Louis Katz, who at the age of 9 had his jokes read by Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, and local funnyman Kyle Harbert. DJs will provide dance music.

The event is planned as a birthday tribute to actor Larry David in recognition of his efforts in tikkun olam (healing the world) “who is an inspiration to us all with his generosity, selflessness and love for humanity, as demonstrated by his generous support of the Susan Ross Foundation,” according to the event flyer.

Since the Susan Ross Foundation is actually a fictional charity from a “Seinfeld” episode started for George’s fiancée who died from licking postage stamps, event organizers sought an appropriate recipient for proceeds from the party.

They turned for inspiration to another “Seinfeld” episode in which George avoids giving Christmas presents by making up the Human Fund and presenting people with certificates saying a donation has been made in their name to the fund.

“We actually found a Human Fund in Cleveland, so we were going to give a portion of the proceeds to them,” said one of the organizers Ryan Bukstein. The real Human Fund supports arts education programs for the underserved youth of Cleveland.

The party begins at 9 p.m., July 2, at the Someday Lounge. Cost is $5. No reservations are necessary, but for more information, email info@youngjews.com.
