COMMUNITY SUKKAH—Joe Maser hands corn stalks to Earle Ellis to put on top of the sukkah.

Sukkah built outside community’s ‘living room’

Joe Maser hands corn stalks to Earle Ellis to put on top of the sukkah volunteers and staff constructed in the courtyard of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, which has been referred to as the “community’s living room.”

The MJCC sukkah was open throughout Sukkot for community members to stop by and enjoy their snack or meal. Students from Portland Jewish Academy, which shares the MJCC campus, also ate meals and celebrated the holiday in the sukkah. Maser and Ellis are both fathers of PJA students and responded to the school’s call for volunteers to help construct the sukkah.
