Interfaith dialogue takes center stage Oct. 20 as the Mittleman Jewish Community Center  hosts an evening program featuring a documentary on unity followed by a panel discussion.

The recent award-winning OPB documentary entitled “The Three Rabbis” showcased how the Portland Jewish community has achieved success in establishing communication between diverse groups within the Jewish community.

To continue the discussion on the topic and extend the conversation, the MJCC will host a panel featuring Rodney Page, former executive director of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon; Frank Afranji, board member of the Inter-Religious Committee For Peace; and Bob Horenstein, community relations director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland.

The panel will answer questions and discuss how the community works together on social action programs, and how separately each group takes responsibility for their own part in Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Jewish community member and attorney Hank Kaplan will moderate the evening.

The Oct. 20 program will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the film “The Three Rabbis” followed by the interfaith panel discussion and an audience generated question and answer period. Light refreshments will be available.

The event is free, though a suggested donation for the event is $8.

The goal for the evening is for the community to recognize similarities while building a basis of acceptance and understanding of differences.
