In sharp contrast to the figures reported by the Institute for Jewish and Community Research regarding who receives grants from Jewish foundations in America, slightly more than 82 percent of the grants made by the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation in its 2006 fiscal year went to Jewish causes.
The foundation’s 2006 fiscal year, which ended on June 30, 2006, is the most recent year for which final figures are available.
The OJCF made grants totaling $2,274,536 that year. Of that amount $1,868,669 went to Jewish causes. The balance of $405,867 went to secular causes.
In addition to the regular grants made by OJCF in 2006, it also made $315,204 in what it calls “special grants and scholarships,” again to predominantly Jewish causes.
Also last year, the Oregon Jewish Community Youth Foundation, which functions within the OJCF, donated $12,300. Of that amount 63 percent went to Jewish causes.
