Just say 'Yes' on Super Sunday

The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland's annual phoneathon fund-raiser, Super Sunday, will be Dec. 3, said Avrel Nudelman, who is co-chairing the 2006 event with Julie Diamond.
The calls will be made from Portland State University, Hoffman Hall.
"Just Say Yes" is the theme for this Super event, said Diamond. "It suggests, 'just do it.'" So take the initiative to volunteer (Just do it.) and/or when your phone rings, "make a donation." (Just Say, Yes.)
Other tasks besides soliciting for pledges will be available for volunteers if they would prefer, she said. For example, instead of manning phones, volunteers can collect the pledge cards and take them to the data entry people, or they can host the food and drink area or they can oversee the children's activities area.
The volunteers, no matter what task they choose, will be treated to "lots of good food and great conversation," said Nudelman. For those volunteers who bring children, fun, age-appropriate activities are planned, so the parents can relax and have fun volunteering.
"Super Sunday," said Diamond, "will be a great opportunity for volunteers to get together and have fun while contributing their time. They will be doing important outreach to the community at-large. For this event, involving the largest swath of the community, every dollar counts. No donation is too small."
"We hope to get a lot of volunteers for Super Sunday, and a lot of people answering their phones that day," Nudelman said.
Volunteers only have to make a commitment for one two-hour shift, which includes a brief training period.
The shifts will be: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
