In response to requests from parents of summer campers, Chabad of Oregon will offer a Winter Break Camp for the first time this year.
The Dec. 24-28 camp will feature sections for children ages 3 and 4, and children ages 5 to 9. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day with extended care available form 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Ever since we started with the day camp, parents have begged us for something to do with their kids over winter break,” said Gan Israel Camp Director Rabbi Chayim Mishulovin. “This is modeled after our popular summer camp, which everyone is so excited about.”
Each day of camp will include a field trip to a winter activity such as roller skating or tubing. Other activities will include arts and crafts, and hands-on activities with Jewish values. A Shabbat program will highlight the Friday camp.
Out-of-town counselors will be coming to enhance Jewish experiences at the camp.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for parents to try out Gan Israel and get a taste of the summer experience,” said Mishulovin, who also serves as directer of program development for Chabad of Oregon.
For older children in third to eighth grade, Mishulovin said Chabad offers an overnight winter camp in Running Springs, Calif. That camp runs Dec. 21-26 for girls and Dec. 27-Jan. 1 for boys. The camp includes skiing, snowboarding, skating, tubing and other winter activities.
