Shaarie Torah Rabbi Emeritus Yonah Geller, 87, died about 10 p.m., Nov. 15, following a fall down his porch steps on Nov. 13.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, at Congregation Shaarie Torah, 920 NW 25th Ave., where Geller served as rabbi for 40 years. Burial will follow at the Shaarie Torah Cemetery.
In an email sent to Shaarie Torah members on Nov. 15, Rabbi Arthur Zuckerman wrote: “Rabbi fell down the front porch steps Tuesday night, and hit his head. While he was in the hospital he suffered a stroke. He has not regained consciousness since then, but he is surrounded by family at all times.”
Family members include wife Lisl Geller, sons Rabbi Dr. Ivan Geller of Denver and Dr. Mark Geller of England, daughter Suretta Geller of Portland and Lisl’s nephew Robert Wishnia.
Geller died shortly after the last member of the family, his son who lives in England, arrived to be with his father.
