The Shaarie Torah Community Chorus is seeking singers, new and returning, in advance of the first rehearsal of its spring season, Jan. 9.

Open to the entire community, the Chorus meets 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 9 through April 2, at Shaarie Torah.

The Community Chorus will perform in the annual Portland Jewish Choral Festival April 6 with other Jewish choirs of all ages.

“It’s a great opportunity for people who enjoy singing in a group, but have busy lives,” says Chorus director Cantor Barbara Slader. “We practice intensely for three months, give a rousing performance, then take a break till next January.

“Singers of every level will enjoy opportunities to grow musically, and to be part of a friendly and supportive musical community,” said Slader.

The Chorus is offered as an adult class by the Shaarie Torah Education Department as part of the Joy of Judaism series. Tuition is $80 for members of Shaarie Torah and $120 for non-members. A simple telephone audition is required for new members. For information, call Barbara Slader, 503-281-0403.
