SAMUEL HARTOCH

Catherine Saunders and Richard Hartoch, MD, of Portland announce the birth of their son Samuel Alexander Hartoch on Oct. 20.

Samuel is the grandson of John and Anita Saunders of Reno, Nev., and Kenneth and Helen Hartoch of Teaneck, N.J.

DENIELLE MENASHE

Denielle Menashe, daughter of Albert and Esther Menashe of Portland, has received her master’s of science in school counseling from California State University- Sacramento.

She currently works as a high school guidance counselor at Westin Ranch High School in Stockton, Calif.  

OBITUARIES

DAVID BESNER

A funeral service was held for David B. Besner Dec. 11 at Shaarie Torah Memorial Chapel. Mr. Besner died Dec. 7 at the age of 68.

Originally from Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Besner had lived in the Portland area since 1976 where he worked as a deputy sheriff for the Clackamas County Sheriff. He was also a member of the Milwaukie Masonic Lodge and the Al Kader Shriners.

Mr. Besner is survived by wife Debra Besner; sons Leo M. Besner and Allan Besner; daughters Mara Holmstrom and Roxanne Diaz; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

EVELYN ZUROW

A funeral service was held for Evelyn Zurow Nov. 29 at Gevurtz Chapel. Mrs. Zurow died Nov. 27 at the age of 86.

Born in Watumpka, Okla., Mrs. Zurow had lived in the Portland area since 1952. In 1954 she married William Allan Zurow and worked primarily as a homemaker.

Mrs. Zurow was a member of Congregation Neveh Shalom and the Robison Sisterhood. She also had been a board member of the Portland Center for Hearing and Speech, a member of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center and the Multnomah Athletic Club.

Mrs. Zurow was predeceased by husband William A. Zurow in 1997 and son William R. Zurow in 2005. She is survived by sons Samuel J. Friendly and Richard B. Zurow; daughters Carol E. Friendly and Laura L. Young; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation.
