With the closure of the Jewish Review comes a new era in communication within the Jewish community.
Portland, the state of Oregon and nearby southwest Washington will not be without a Jewish publication.
The first edition of the independent monthly Jewish lifestyles magazine Oregon Jewish Life will be published by Feb. 1.
The magazine will be mailed to an extensive distribution list including all those who currently receive the Jewish Review.
Principals in the new publishing venture are Portlanders Bob Philip and Cindy Saltzman.
In a joint statement they said, “We have been truly honored by the community’s support of our new magazine.
“At the same time, we are very aware of the amazing contribution and reputation of the Jewish Review and that it has been an integral and important part of this community.
“We have big shoes to fill, and in doing so, we hope to honor that tradition.”

The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, which published the Jewish Review since January 1959, will continue to keep the community informed with its new semimonthly e-newsletter that will include local news, an events calendar and announcements.
The first e-newsletter will be emailed on Jan. 15 and will be emailed regularly after that on the 15th and 30th of each month.

An online form for submitting items for the newsletter is available at www.jewishportland.org.
The online archive of the Jewish Review, which was the first Jewish newspaper in the world to also publish online—it went online in 1995—will be maintained for the foreseeable future at www.jewishreview.org.
