Portland Jewish Academy will welcome families to celebrate Passover with creative activities during the popular Matzah to Macaroons event on Sunday, April 5 from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
This event is for families currently at PJA as well as those who are considering PJA. Join PJA teachers, staff and students for a fun day of Passover-themed activities for children preschool age through eighth grade, including Passover Jeopardy, matzah making, art, sing-a-long, story telling with puppets, theater games and more.
“PJA parents and students alike enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about Passover and experience classes with teachers they hadn’t had so far” said Inge Hoogerhuis, PJA’s admission director. “And of course, we had just as many new families join us for the afternoon (last year). It’s such a pleasure to walk through the halls and see everyone so busy enjoying themselves!”
Many non-PJA families were in attendance for last year’s event and had the chance to experience what is so special about PJA.
One of those parents, Tricia Schoenbaum, who then became a PJA parent this past fall, said “We loved attending the PJA event last spring. We ultimately chose PJA for a whole host of reasons, including the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum, the amazing teaching staff and the close knit and supportive community. Attending events last spring and over the summer made us feel a part of the PJA family and helped build huge excitement for the kids in transitioning to their new school. By the time we started at PJA in fall, the kids raced down the hallway to class, feeling right at home from the first day of school.”
The community is welcome to attend this fun Passover event. Matzah to Macaroons will be at PJA on April 5 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to children ages 3 to 13 and their parents. The event is free and no reservations are required. For more information, contact Hoogerhuis at 503-535-3599.
